If you’re struggling with planning or can’t seem to make it into a regular, daily thing I definitely recommend adding bells and whistles.
I started planning completely accidentally. There was no intention to become super organized because as far as I was concerned, I was totally on top of things. I was clearly delusional.
Before getting into planning (seriously) I had tried keeping a few planners around. Every year I went to Staples and bought myself a little planner, wrote in it for about 2 weeks, and then forgot all about it. So what changed?
Honestly, not that much. Turns out my problem wasn’t that I didn’t like planning, it was that I was going about it all wrong! I was buying boring planners with business functional layouts that had zero visual appeal. Who wants to look at that every day??? Not me!
At the time when I got my first (and what is now my go-to) planner, I was running a fashion blog and needed to get a staple piece for my purse. I had some money put away for a splurge purchase so I decided that if I had a fancy Louis Vuitton planner it would keep me organized in style. Well it did much more than that.
Once I got the planner I was obsessed. The leather, the gold hardware, the size (MM); everything about this planner screamed luxe. I knew the interior had to be as cute as the exterior so I started researching planner supplies. Before I knew it, I was down the rabbit hole! I started with inserts, then moved into dashboards, then made my way to stickers. If it was planner related, I had to have it! I was a planning baby vampire, hungry and buying everything in sight. I also started making my own planner supplies which actually led me to open my shop, Mod Mode Designs.
So why do I still plan to this day and why are my current planners not left in the dust like all those other poor prototypes? It’s quite simple really, I plan because I forced myself to turn it into a habit. I made my planners so pretty that I had no choice but to use them.
If you’re struggling with planning or can’t seem to make it into a regular, daily thing I definitely recommend adding bells and whistles. If you’re drawn to your planner, then planning will follow. And come on, who doesn’t need more clips and charms in their lives?
